This CD contains Aerobella

Story by A.J. Russo and Myra Derbyshire

Illustrated by Mary Alice Baumgardner

Aerobella was a 2003 EPPIE finalist.

This international book award is given by EPIC, the Electronically Published Internet Connection.

Aerobella was also winner of the Award of Excellence from Word Weaving

Myra stands holding her father's hand as they watch their apartment building burn. Her father was only able to save his briefcase. Myra saved her pet turtle, Aerobella, who watches the fire with them. The fire is the impetus for her father to tell Myra that it's time to let Aerobella go.

Myra's terribly saddened by her father's decision. She and Aerobella have been together since she was four when she promised to care for it and protect it. They are the best friends, watching TV together and going for walks with Aerobella on a leash.

A lesson in letting go is gently rendered in AEROBELLA. Perhaps the most graceful element of the book is knowing when not to use words. The last couple of pages tell the story in simple pictures, simply allowing a silent to tell the story. What a marvelous opening for a parent to step in and fill the silence with the words their own child needs, or for the child to say what they think about the ending. Be careful, though. This story will touch your heart, and may provoke a tear. The beauty of the tale and the beautiful watercolor illustrations make AEROBELLA a must read. Ciny Penn, Midwest Book Review, Winner of the WordWeaving Award for Excellence.

This CD also contains Abby

Abby is a goose with a deformed wing that lives on Assateague Island in Virginia. She grew up with four brothers, but she was never able to swim as well as they could, nor could she fly. When they grew up and winter came, her brothers flew south with her parents, leaving her alone on the island. Then one day Abby hears a cry for help, and finds another goose with a deformed wing that needs her help. Despite her limitations, Abby's heroic courage saves the goose and her expected goslings.

Author AJ Russo's words flow as smoothly as the warm spring breeze when the geese gather for their yearly reunion. Children will love the heroic Abby who overcomes her limitations for the sake of her new friend. Parents will appreciate the lessons to be learned by this gently told tale. Rich illustrations and simple prose make AJ Russo's children's book a perfect bedtime read. Readers who enjoy ABBY will also want to read AEROBELLA, coauthored by AJ Russo and Mary Alice Baumgardner. Very highly recommended.

This CD contains 6 biology and chemistry simulations - Enzyme Kinetics, Osmosis, Cell (population) Growth, DNA Melting (Hyperchromic Effect), Hardy/Weinberg and Predator/Prey

They are all easy to use, with instuctions built into the software.

Each simulation allows students to change variables and test hypothesis associate with the above areas of biology.

All the characters were well drawn, and believable, as were their motives. A very nice discussion of differing moral viewpoints and the passion felt by those on each side of the debate. A.J. Russo writes knowledgeably about treatments for infertility, and the manipulation of cells required for cloning. The technical details are clear and easy to understand and the reader can feel Russo's passion. It is great to read a book that looks at all sides of such a complex issue.-LAUREN ROCHE, Inscriptions Magazine.

"The Healer" is based on many "what ifs." What if atoms and protons are
combined in new ways? What if Mary truly appeared... What if a
government could buy knowledge and harness it for destructive purposes? The
story reminds us that we only know what our own life experiences and the
newscasters tell us. Truths are hidden and some actions have frightening,
far-reaching consequences.

The characters are genuine, three-dimensional and vulnerable...
As I read the book, I cared about their plights. I rooted for them as they
sought the truth. They are understandable, interesting, complex people.

A.J. Russo uses a simple, unembellished style. At times, the presentation
sounds as factual as a science report, yet the fate of the characters
matters. Russo respects the reader and does not spell out every reaction.
Instead, Russo cuts to the heart of the action, reporting events, showing
what happened and implying how the characters felt.

I was amazed by how tightly the book held me. Normally I am drawn to
reflection, but I found myself completely open to the story revealed here.
The power of "The Healer" lies in its conflicts. Who is the healer and just
what is being healed? This investigation of science, spirituality and
consequences leaves the reader wondering what most needs to be cured in
today's world...B. Lynn Goodwin, Inscriptions Magazine

"A real page turning mystery. Be prepared to stay up all night with this one."

"4 Stars...The reader is carried along in the hostility between Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland from 1947-1991. The lives of two families--the Catholic Currys and Protestant Redmonds--are presented in intense detail during Northern Ireland's most deadly period by writer Russo. Intertwined through rancor and violence, the lives of these two families are presented in a suspenseful, fast-paced narrative filled with passion, horror and machination. By focusing attention on the lives of the families, Russo delineates more the heartache experienced as the characters lose more than they gain from the enmity and discrimination rampant in the area. Filled with a good bit of the poignancy found in Eric Balkan's City of Tears, and the attention to rich detail employed by Paul Clayton in Calling Crow, Russo's New Lodge Affair is an entertaining read that will keep the reader engrossed from the opening pages right on to the last paragraph."--Reviewed by Molly Martin, Scribe's World Reviews
